April 17, 2019 — The maker of Chips Ahoy cookies has recalled the chewy variety after a problem in the production process.
Elisabeth Wenner, a spokeswoman for Mondelez Global LLC, owner of the Chewy Chips Ahoy brand, says in an email to WebMD that “in some instances, the cornstarch in our Chewy Chips Ahoy recipe did not fully incorporate in the mixing procedure and solidified in the baking process.”
Wenner says the company has received a “small number” of complaints from consumers who reported “gagging, choking or dental injury, but none of these reports have been confirmed at this time.”
Mondelez says only 13-ounce packages of Chewy Chips Ahoy, which are sold nationwide, are part of the recall, and specifically only those with a retail UPC code of 0 44000 03223 4 and “best when used by dates” of Sept. 7, 2019, Sept. 8, 2019, Sept. 14, 2019, or Sept. 15, 2019.
